The recent murder of 49 people in a nightclub in Orlando, Fla., has called me to serious reflection.

This was the worst mass shooting in recent U.S. memory. Orlando’s Pulse nightclub is a gay bar. The shooter targeted, even scoped out, this particular club.

Shouldn’t I care less about this tragedy? Wasn’t the clientele the very kinds of people we preach against? Shouldn’t we see this as a needed judgment?

NO! NO! A thousand times, NO!

Every one of the men and women in that club was a person for whom Jesus went to the cross.

I need to remember that. Young or old, gay or straight, Republican, Democrat, Independent or Socialist – these are people about whom I should care.

I confess that it is easier for me to judge and condemn than to care.

God, help me.

Glad the tomb is empty,
